Rivas is a catalan surname. It comes from latin "ripa" that means near the seacoast or near the river. Maybe this surname comes from the toponym Ribas that was a pirenaic population. I didn`t find more information about its meaning.

The coat of arms of the surname Rivas is formed by some symbols that are similar to flowers. This coat is divided in two parts. The one part has a yellow background and in the middle there is a big blue flower which is cross-shaped.
The other part of the coat of arms has a blue background. Here there are seven smaller flowers.
