Surname

Villaverde

María Villaverde Temes · 9 abril 2018 19:21

Meaning of the surname
The surname Villaverde comes from Segovia but we can found this surname in other different places like Asturias, Cantabria, Madrid, Castilla- La Mancha and Andalucía.

Villaverde means "green farm", this meaning is probably related with Castilla and León (his origin) because in the past there were lots of lands, farms and also agriculture there.

Meaning of the coat of arms
In the coat of arms we can see three different parts, up to the left there is a gold chain with a black band and two white regions. Then, up to the right we can see a red region with eight yellow crosses; and in the middle there are two wolves with two lambs in their mouth on a yellow bakground. Finally, down in the middle we can see a green tree on a yellow background.

The meaning of the coat of arms is: "Pro patria rege ac fide sanguinen atque divitas", that means "And the blood of the king and their loyalty had happened for his country".

I didn't find a lot of information about the meaning of each element, but I discover that the gold chain means the "loyalty to the king", the wolves and the lambs symbolize the effort (refering to the wars) that the village had to suffer when they conquered their land, and also force and courage. Finally the tree means strenght (the trees are heavy and strong), and longevity of the family (there are a lot of millenary trees).
