Granja

Marcos Granja Grille · 5 abril 2018 09:04

Meaning of the surname
I discovered that this shield or another very similar to it, appeared initially from the XI century to the XIV century, particularly in the council of Leon of 1020 in which the supremacy of the royal jurisdiction over the nobles was recognized, this family was also related to the council of Coyanza of 1050 in which the resolutions of the previous one were confirmed. The references of this family seem to be specified more frequently from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century especially the events of the escort that accompanied the future King D. Felipe, son of Carlos I (V of Germany), from La Coruña to Southampton on 20 July 1554 for the celebration of his wedding with the unattractive Doña Maria Tudor, called the bloodthirsty, Queen of England and daughter of Henry VIII. All this seems to coincide with the family memory of some of the members of the branch of the Granja family.

Meaning of the coat of arms
The shape of this shield comes from modern French shields.
The background of this coat of arms is color Gules (In heraldry, this means that the background is red) It is the color of the beginning of life and the central fire that animates the worlds. The possessor of red is wise and manifests it in his actions. Love and self-control.
In the foreground there is a castle that originally symbolized the strength of virtue, the ancient nobility, grandeur and elevation, denoting asylum and safeguard and feudal power. In civic heraldry, usually refers to the castle of the place.
There is a flag with a rooster. The rooster signifies faith and light. The morning song of the rooster represents the triumph over darkness and evil, so the symbol was becoming important.
